Paris Street Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Vin Varietal

Romania may not be the first country you think of for Sauvignon, yet with “some of Europe’s greatest cool climate vineyards” (Hugh Johnson), it’s perfectly suited. And if we had to choose just one to convince you, it’s racy, citrusy Paris Street.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world’s best loved white grapes, whether from New Zealand’s trendy Marlborough region or from its traditional homeland in Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé (in France’s Loire Valley). These wines are pretty pricey, but in eastern Europe there are some excellent though little known areas perfectly suited to Sauvignon Blanc and offering much better value. Paris Street is a perfect example. It comes from relatively high, mountain cooled regions within Romania, close to the Carpathian Mountains and the Transylvanian Alps. Lean and minerally with zingy citrus fruit character, Paris Street is great solo or with fish and shellfish dishes such as grilled sea bass on a bed of fennel, prawn and crab risotto or smoked salmon.
