Joseph Mellot Réserve Prestige Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Val de Loire IGP

One of Sancerre’s most historic estates, Joseph Mellot has made this grassy fresh Sauvignon with grapes from the family’s vineyards across the region. It offers a chance to sample their impeccable winemaking without the hefty price tag of Sancerre.

With a winemaking heritage stretching back to 1513, the Mellot family have an excellent head start when it comes to producing great Sauvignon Blanc. Catherine Corbeau Mellot, wife of the late Alexandre Mellot, is currently at the helm, while her two young sons, Adrien and Armand, are waiting in the wings to continue the family’s winemaking tradition. We love Sancerre from this estate, but it isn’t cheap, so we were delighted when Catherine offered to produce us a Réserve Prestige with much of the finesse of the real thing, but at a more attractive price. The grapes all hail from sloping, limestone rich vineyards – perfect for concentrated, ripe fruit. The wine’s fresh, citrusy flavours are a classic match with goat’s cheese or grilled fish.

"Lovely crisp wine. This is a very good Sauvignon Blanc, cheaper than Sancerre but not a compromise" Online Review
