More information
There is enormous praise for this top performing Chianti estate. It was founded in the 1950s by the de Marchi family, when they joined two properties, Isola and Elena. Their 45 hectares of vines are situated on the western side of Chianti, at 350 to 450 metres altitude – an area that benefits from coastal breezes, as well as the coolness of a higher altitude position, resulting in elegance, finesse and aromatic quality in their wines. Paolo de Marchi, known by his peers as ‘Mr Sangiovese’, is regarded today as one of the very best winemakers of the appellation. Since 1980, he has also made a Super Tuscan called Cepparello, which regularly gains over 95 points. All Sangiovese, the Chianti Classico is superb now, but will also cellar well.
