It’s no coincidence the Papavero family of wines are amongst our customers’ favourites – winemaker Scipione Giuliani always manages to capture the very essence of the grape, the spirit of Italy and a delicious drinkability. This is the granddaddy of the group, made purely from Primitivo from a plot of 50 year old vines. That results in very concentrated flavour. Scipione discovered the vines in Puglia, and insisted that the grapes be bottled solo. To match the richness of the fruit, he aged the wine in barrel for a few months, lending it mellow roundness and complexity. ll Papavero Primitivo is a weighty red, best served with similarly hearty food. Enjoy with spaghetti and tomato, garlic and basil sauce, or roast meats or pork casserole.
