Chianti fans will love this silky Sangiovese, awarded 'Tre Bicchieri' - Italy's highest honour. It's from a family cellar which received significant investment about a decade back. The result was a new, beautifully designed, environmentally aware cellar and a big step up in wine quality that was already considerable. The estate lies in Romagna's Rubicone region, across the Appenines from Tuscany's famous Chianti, and also an excellent red wine area. The family makes a standard Sangiovese, but this wine uses grapes from older vines and, more intensely flavoured, is aged for a year in barrel for extra complexity. This fine Riserva offers ripe cherry and plum fruit with tobacco notes and a twist of tea. Enjoy solo or with hearty dishes.
