Rarely do you encounter Pinot Noir vinified as a white wine, apart from in sparkling wine production like Champagne. Here it’s a revelation, providing lovely creamy texture and those classic red berry notes, balanced by an appetising streak of freshness. Serve it to friends blindfolded and it’ll certainly fox them. Beyond that, though, it’s a hugely enjoyable drink. It’s from Haltinger, a winery awarded ‘Best Cellar of Baden 2014’. This is a region renowned for its red wine, Pinot Noir in particular – Baden has the climate to ripen the red grapes fully, whereas much of Germany has been too cool. Treat like you would a good white Burgundy and serve cellar cool. It’s great with creamy white meat dishes, risotto or luxurious fish pie.
