Hacienda de Lluna Merlot 2016

Valencia DO

Who’d have thought that a nation famous for traditional old reds could produce one of the most vibrant, uplifting Merlots in our range? But then it is made by a dynamic young winemaker at a cellar close to Valencia. Juicy, plummy and very moreish.

This is a juicy, youthful Merlot from Maria Angeles Camara, who also makes our popular, mature, oaky Palacio del Conde range of wines. Merlot is gaining ground in Spain as more people come to appreciate its irresistible red fruit charms. This one comes from elevated vineyards 30 miles inland from the bustling Mediterranean city of Valencia, where the great and good of Madrid head for sun, sea and fine local food and wine. John Radford in The New Spain wrote: “Spanish wine is more vibrant, happening and fascinating than it has ever been” – an opinion perfectly illustrated by this almost New World style of Merlot. Smooth enough to enjoy solo, or with chicken, pasta with pesto, roasted vegetables and, of course, all kinds of tapas dishes.
