The Frapin family have been in Segonzac, SW France, since 1270. They started out as wine growers but for the last 21 generations have been distillers too. Their most famous ancestor is the writer François Rabelais. Their 240 hectares of vines are in Grande Champagne, the official Premier Cru de Cognac. It’s so called because the chalky soil is identical to that found in Reims. Cognac gains its signature warm colour and aromas through ageing in new and old Limousin oak casks, stored in humid conditions to allow the 'angel share' to escape and flavours to concentrate. The superb XO is named Château Fontpinot as the grapes are harvested, fermented, distilled, bottled and blended at the estate. Long ageing results in this magnificent cognac.
