Pagos de Tahola Rioja 2017

Rioja DOCa

A delightful, easy drinking Rioja with bright berry fruit and a light wrap of vanilla oak. It’s from 2017, a year that saw frosts and drought, tiny yields and wines with lovely intensity. From the Chavarri team, this is a charm filled red.

Pagos de Tahola is an outstanding modern Rioja from a century old family estate. The wine’s exuberant, bright fruit comes down to mature vines grown in some of Rioja’s highest vineyards, and its intensity is thanks to the particularly small, low yield vintage. The first vines were planted at this estate in 1882 while the winery was rebuilt in 1968. Two generations of the Chavarri family are now in charge – father Francisco and daughter Ruth – while Miguel Lopez Nunez is winemaker. Intended to be enjoyed in its youth, this oak aged Tempranillo is very much the style the locals prefer, with its simple red berry flavours and subtle hints of vanilla and cloves from oak ageing. Be authentic and serve with tapas, grilled lamb or rabbit stew.
