Chat with Vinny
Domaine Ferraton always produced fabulous southern Rhône gems, but with Michel Chapoutier now at the helm and help from Stéphane Ogier, the wines are knockout. This 93 Point Gigondas is voluptuous and rich, with layers of spice and wild herb flavour.
Tasting notes
Lots of ripe summer berries over rounded tannins, with spice and herbs
Aroma
Rich, ripe cherry, blackberry, cooked plums, spice and black pepper

Founded in 1946, Domaine Ferraton has always been a highly regarded estate. Yet since Chapoutier has come on board quality has risen yet higher. The Ferratons started working with Michel Chapoutier in 1998, with Michel buying the estate in 2004. He runs it very much as an independent concern, with the Ferraton family still at the helm. Oenologist Damien Brisset and Stéphane Ogier (of renowned Domaine Stéphane Ogier) are also part of the ‘super team’ and the result is some really impressive wines. This is their rapturous Gigondas, an appellation not quite as famous as its near neighbour Châteauneuf, but better priced for that. The wines share that intense fruit power with layers of spice and length. From a top vintage, it is best decanted.
