Ferraton Père & Fils Ermitage Le Méal 2014

Hermitage AOC

Hermitage is a tiny appellation with a huge reputation in the northern Rhône, and Le Méal was “star of the show” (Wine Advocate) in 2014. From a domaine now run by the great Chapoutier family, this 2014 has richness, power and amazing concentration.

Founded in 1946, Domaine Ferraton has always been a highly regarded estate. Since the Chapoutiers have joined the team, “the quality from this estate continues to soar” (Wine Advocate). The Ferraton family work closely with Michel Chapoutier, oenologist Damien Brisset and the renowned Stéphane Ogier to make a ‘super team’ and produce a range of amazing wines. Le Méal is a sublime, ripe and powerful, concentrated Hermitage using grapes from the warmest terroir of the Hermitage Hill. 14 months in oak, 20% new, lets the bold ripe berry fruit shine through with a measured influence of toasted oak complexity. Now four years old, the wine is still very young, with rich, meaty length and complexity. Decant the wine beforehand and let it breathe.

"Richness, terrific concentration, fabulous notes of roasted meats, black raspberries, licorice" Jeb Dunnuck
