Famille Descombe Viognier 2020

Vin de France

Founded in Beaujolais in 1905, this 5th-generation family estate not only makes reds of real charm, but also an exotically spiced, ripely peachy Viognier. It's rare to find in this appellation, where Gamay is king. Dashingly different and delicious.

Once put aside in favour of bold New World reds, the charms of Beaujolais have once more won us over. Its rare whites, however, are much more of a secret, especially one made from Viognier. This is a luscious ripe white from the Descombe family, who set up their estate in 1905. Five generations later, they have expanded their reach further north, to Chablis, and further south to the Rhône. This aromatic, lightly spiced Viognier is from their original plot. Harvested at night for maximum aromatics, cool fermented, then aged for six months on its lees, this white has it all! Body, ripe fruit, roundness and aromatics, with gentle freshness. A deliciously different apéritif, it's great with white meats, seafood and creamy vegetarian dishes.

"A white that's nicely different – delicious Viognier of real charm and character" Sarah Everden
