Malbec is Argentina’s claim to fame, Carmenère is Chile’s, right? Not so fast. Chile was growing Malbec even before Argentina, and recently a few hectares of 140 year old vines were discovered, making them the oldest known Malbec plantings in the world. Chile only grows a fraction of what its neighbour does, but boy is it good! El Chango proves this once and for all. It comes from our good friends the Luis Felipe Edwards estate, crowned ‘New World Producer of the Year’ at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2018, and ‘Best Chilean Winery’ four times. This is Malbec with bright cassis, blueberry and silky spice aplenty. Let it breathe first. Great on its own, even better with meaty pasta or bangers and burgers. Don’t light another barbecue without it!
