It’s an ancient tradition in Valpolicella to sun dry some of the best grapes before fermentation to create irresistibly rich Amarone. With a glorious combination of power and complexity, this superb, ageworthy red is prized the world over. Making Amarone is a time consuming labour of love and that’s reflected in the price. Global demand pushes prices ever higher, so when a winemaking friend told our Buyer about this deal, he felt compelled to try it. A famous cellar had just a single botte (a large Italian barrel) of superb 2013 going spare. We could have the lot at ‘mates’ rates’ if we promised not to name them. He signed there and then, securing this intense red that’s ideal with game, grilled and braised meats or risotto all’Amarone.

"Absolutely superb, this intense, refined Amarone is worth every penny and more" Davy Zyw
