Pinot Noir is best known in the wines of Burgundy and Champagne yet this classic rosé shows how brilliantly it performs when grown in the finest chalk and limestone soils of Central Loire. It comes from Chavignol, a renowned Sancerre village and rivals the appellation’s fine whites for quality and stature. Serge and Elisabeth Laporte’s 10 hectare domaine has been in the family for generations and it looks set to remain so for at least one more. They are now joined by their son Guillaume who studied oenology in Tours. His input has brought further quality to an already excellent cuvée. Picked at perfect ripeness, it sings of floral, summer berry fruit and citrus minerality. An elegant crisp pink to enjoy with lobster, seared tuna or chicken.
