This classic Sancerre reflects the chalk and limestone soils known as ‘caillottes’ for which the village of Chavignol is famous. It’s a riveting wine with a great medal winning history and comes courtesy of Serge and Elisabeth Laporte. Their 10 hectare domaine has been in the family for generations and looks set to remain so for at least one more – they’ve now been joined by their son Guillaume. He spent three years studying oenology at the university in Tours, and his input has further upped the quality of an already excellent estate. Premium Sauvignon, this wine has incredible mineral richness and pristine citrus and herbaceous flavours. A most elegant aperitif, it also goes very well with warm goat’s cheese salad or seafood of all kinds.
