Christine and Eric Saurel are the fifth generation to tend their family estate. It lies in Vacqueyras, but its 58 hectares of vines are scattered through the finest terroir of the southern Rhône. Since 1996, when they met an influential, biodynamic Loire producer, they've adopted the same practices themselves. They work with nature to get the very best from their vineyards and to express it in each of their delicious wines. Smell Les Violettes and the reason for the wine's name is apparent – there's an entrancing floral lift to this delightful old-vine Syrah. Matured in traditional cement vats, the wine has a vibrant freshness to its silky black fruit, with hints of the herbal garrigue. Toad-in-the-hole to lasagne, it'll match them all.
