Wine Advocate wrote “the estate is unquestionably in the top handful of domaines in the Rhône Valley”. The family once grew apricots, then fortuitously changed to grapes. Such was the quality that, until 1982, they sold all their grapes to top estates Guigal and Chapoutier. After two vintages in Stellenbosch and time in Beaune, Stéphane took over from his father in the late 1990s, added 8 hectares to the vineyards (he owns numerous parcels in Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint Joseph) and built himself a modern cellar. Terroir is his raison d’être. His old Malleval vines are south facing at 300 metres altitude, so cool yet sun blessed. Hence the ripeness and finesse of this white. Oak fermented and lees aged, this is a gem for truffled chicken.
