Fermented in part new French oak, this splendid Meursault has exceptional depth and complexity, with seamless integration of toasty spice. It’s from father and son Thierry and Pascale Matrot, whose family wine heritage dates back to the end of the 19th century. They are very much part of Meursault, which centres around a village of the same name – a sleepy backwater whose streetscape suggests little of its enormous wine reputation. In fact, it is all about wine, with not much more to offer regular tourists. The Matrot vineyards are meticulously managed, enhanced by organic fertilisers and ‘green harvesting’ to restrict yields. This lush 2011 has textural richness, freshness, minerality and subtle nuttiness. Best with creamy chicken or fish.

"If you love the rich style and tangy freshness of Meursault, you’ll surely appreciate Matrot’s 2011" Robin Langton
