Domaine Matrot Bourgogne Blanc 2015

Bourgogne AOC

This white Burgundy may only have humble ‘Bourgogne’ on the label, but it tastes much loftier than that. From a family estate based in Meursault, this white has richness, depth and longevity enhanced by a barrel fermentation and ageing in new oak.

If you’ve ever enjoyed a richly textured Meursault, you will love this more affordable alternative. Father and son Thierry and Pascale Matrot can trace their family wine heritage here back to the 19th century. Their splendid Bourgogne Blanc stands out from the crowd as it is made from the rich fruit of old Chardonnay vines near the leading village of Meursault. Furthermore, it was aged in French barrels, a fifth of which were brand new. It gains extra richness too from bâtonnage, the traditional technique of stirring the wine on its lees. The result is a fine wine of great freshness, fruit and minerality. It’s lovely now yet will develop more complexity if cellared for a year or two. Ideal with terrines or sauced chicken and fish dishes.

"An exceptional vintage. It is hard to imagine anyone being disappointed with the 2015s" Decanter magazine
