From an impressive family estate comes a wonderfully silky, aromatic Gevrey Chambertin. The village produces some of the finest wines of the Côte de Nuits and this ripe, fragrant 2017 from Domaine Georges Lignier surpasses its reputation.
Beyond the Label
Powerful with an impressive balance of tannin, fruit and acidity
Intense aromas of cassis and red berries with musky complexity
Gevrey Chambertin is one of the star appellations of the Côte de Nuits, highly regarded for its intense, elegant, potent Pinot Noir. Style varies from producer to producer, but we very much recommend the wines of this charming family estate. Benoît Stehly took over from his uncle – Georges, grandson of the founder – in 2002 and under his steady hands (stained reassuringly purple all year round) the estate’s wines have gone from strength to strength. Benoît’s Gevrey is crafted from fruit harvested by hand from 2.2 hectares of south facing vineyards. After vinification, the wine was aged in oak for 18 months and will reward further cellaring. Decant before serving with beef, lamb or game.
"A very charming Gevrey, which will develop fabulous complexity with a few more years ageing"
