Domaine Joseph Voillot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2014

Bourgogne AOC

This fine red Burgundy may say simple Bourgogne on the label, but it is in fact made from prime Pinot Noir just a stone’s throw from Volnay itself. It displays all the classic character of the famous name – silky, floral fruit with enticing aromas.

A fine red Burgundy that tastes way above its simple appellation. That’s because the fruit comes from 50 year old vineyards just below Volnay, giving the wine terrific intensity as well as some flavour and style of that divine appellation. Joseph Voillot is a superb, fifth generation family estate that is meticulous in producing wines which speak clearly of fruit and terroir, while avoiding layers of showy new oak. Winemaker today is Joseph’s son-in-law Jean-Pierre Charlot – in the past he taught at Beaune’s wine college, where students included some of Burgundy’s rising stars. Michel Bettane wrote, “Jean-Pierre Charlot has vinified some of the finest and most balanced wines of Volnay and Pommard." Enjoy with game or rich mushroom dishes.

"One of the most respected in the region. His wines are a masterclass in under-statement" Neal Martin
