Praise from Robert Parker for Domaine Jean Monnier: “Wines are cunningly delicious and supple young, but age. This is an estate whose wines I recommend with much enthusiasm.” Praise indeed from this legendary critic. Superb balance, length and power.

If you’re something of an enthusiast for white Burgundy, you’ll know that 2016 Burgundies are delicious but also hard to come by. During budbreak in early spring, swathes of the region were plagued by hard frosts. This was disastrous in terms of harvest quantity, but the grapes that were left were concentrated knots of flavour. Father and son Jean-Claude and Nicolas Monnier made the best of the miserly harvest. The estate was founded in Meursault in 1720 and now comprises 16 hectares extending from Puligny Montrachet to Beaune. Their 2016 Puligny shows a delightful, smooth creaminess on the mid-palate, with bright apricot fruit and spice on a luxurious long finish. It’ll develop with time - for now let it breathe. A top choice with seafood.

"A seductively smooth, creamy white that is excellent now, and will also reward patient cellaring" Jehan Sacaze
