More information
Cooper craftsman Jean-Edouard Dupard set up this superb domaine in 1859, and it was he who, as mayor of Puligny in 1873, orchestrated the decision that Montrachet – the region’s most prestigious vineyard – be added to the village name (Puligny). Neighbouring Chassagne soon followed suit. Domaine Jean Chartron has been run by five generations of the family, with current owner Jean-Michel Chartron continuing his father’s excellent work. Quality is now soaring. He acquired Les Perrières in 2008. This top flight Saint Aubin is beautifully crafted in a difficult, frost struck vintage. Barrel fermentation and ageing for a year in part new oak has lent a lavish layer of toasted vanilla to this fine white Burgundy. Open early and decant or cellar.
