This fine, fourth generation estate was founded by Philippe Jouan’s great grandfather. He was a barrel maker with a few vines alongside. Even today, they own only 3 hectares of vines and manage another 1.5 hectares, but all in beautifully positioned plots. As a consequence, their wines are hugely difficult to get hold of and reservations have to be made long in advance. They’ve been suppliers to Drouhin for 50 years too, a fact they are proud of. This glorious Premier Cru takes grapes from two 80-year-old parcels of vines within Clos Sorbé. Careful tending, natural treatments and gentle handling in the cellar result in a fine silky texture, wafts of complex aromas and a divine palate of cherry, berry, cinnamon, mocha and more earthy notes.
