Domaine Henri Gouges Bourgogne 2016

Bourgogne AOC

This may be the entry level from Henri Gouges, but as you’d expect from such a highly regarded name, this tastes anything but ordinary. Unlike the estate’s ageworthy Grands Crus, this wine's bright fruit and leafy complexity is ready to be enjoyed.

Founded in 1920, Domaine Henri Gouges is one of the most famous names in Burgundy. The unquestionable quality of their wines is thanks to the uncompromising standards set in vineyard and winery by the original Henri Gouges. The family owns around 14.5 hectares of vines, including holdings in six Nuits Saint Georges Premiers Crus. Their vines are on average 40 years old, so naturally yield a small amount of concentrated fruit. It was particularly small in 2016 due to spring frosts, so that some Nuits grapes have been blended into the villages wine. All the more delicious here. Fourth generation winemaker Grégory Gouges, now working organically, aims for a silky, more approachable style of wine. Enjoy with duck, tagine or mushroom croustade.
