Domaine Albert Bichot Santenay 2016

Santenay AOP

From the superb Albert Bichot and a vintage that’s received high praise from critics, this is rare white Santenay with four years' age. Over 12 months in barrel has added a seam of vanilla to the vibrant fruit and floral freshness of this white.

Santenay lies in southernmost Côte de Beaune and takes its name from ‘santinae aquae’, Latin for healing water. Since Roman times Santenay has been a thermal spa. But today it is best known for fine Burgundies, red and white. This superb, top vintage white is from Albert Bichot, the wines of which are characterised by elegance and delicate nuance – think prima ballerina grace and precision footwork. In 2016, quality was outstanding – “at times extraordinarily great, with a clutch of legendary wines” (Neal Martin, RobertParker.com), “seriously delicious vintage” (Jancis Robinson MW). Barrel ageing for up to 16 months, 20% in new oak, lends a delicate seam of toasted vanilla to the pretty fruit. A white for fine dining – seafood or chicken.

"Albert Bichot is one of those Beaune based producers that can really surprise" Neal Martin
