More information
Alain Chavy is renowned for his superb, long lived white Burgundies. He worked with his father Gérard and his brother Jean-Louis until 2003, when he decided to set up on his own. Now he has 7 hectares of superbly situated vineyards, mostly in Puligny Montrachet, with a few in top plots of Chassagne and Meursault. These are all worked sustainably. He has also built an underground cellar, six metres deep, in Puligny to make his wines and keep them cool! All his wines are fermented in oak, but much of that is large, well seasoned foudres, so lend complexity without adding any major spice notes. Batonnage is kept to a minimum, which accounts for the long life of his wines, their purity of fruit and of terroir. Best to open early and decant.
