Argentina’s Malbec is one of the trendiest wines on the planet today. Many of the finest wines come from the high altitude vineyards in Mendoza. There grapes benefit from warm days of pure sunshine, which cools significantly at night. This drop in temperature helps to retain the elegance and aroma of its wines. Try this red for starters – it has a lightness of touch and enticing floral and berry fruit aroma, with a hint of spice, but nothing jammy. Cristian Ampuero is the brains behind it. He uses purely hand-picked grapes, gently fermented and with minimal oak. Supple enough to enjoy solo, it's also a good choice with grilled meats – a perfect barbecue red. Try it too with a rich tomato pasta bake or a spicy beany vegetable casserole.
