Château Milon Cuvée Diony 2014

Saint-Emilion AOC

The beautiful town of Saint Emilion is the centre of Bordeaux’s Right Bank (vineyards east of the Garonne and Dordogne river), where Merlot is the predominant grape. This is a barrel aged claret with lovely ripe fruit from a small family château.

Our Bordeaux Buyer, Jean-Marc Sauboua, likes to kick over the traces in the less touristy parts of Saint Emilion, because he often finds great wines at modest prices. Alexia and Pierre Boyer’s Château Milon is relatively humble to look at, but their wine is anything but. This estate has vineyards on superb gravel-rich terroir as well as on classic limestone soils at Saint Christophe des Bardes. With pruning and green harvesting, yields are kept way down (35 hl per hectare – lower than many fancier properties). Ageing for over a year in French oak barrels, one third new, adds a significant layer of vanilla oak complexity to the black fruit and cedary notes. Well balanced and aromatic, this is a classy partner to pan-fried duck or lamb.

"Classic Saint Emilion from a lesser know yet exemplary estate. Already delectable, but will age" Jean-Marc Sauboua
