Gold and Double Gold for this stand-out barrel aged Cabernet Merlot from Breede River Valley. It’s rare to find one of this maturity too. Tim Atkin MW says “For wine lovers, South Africa offers something special”, and Procavia is rich proof of that.

Every year wine critic Tim Atkin MW scrutinises South Africa’s wines. In 2018 he wrote “South Africa is producing wines that are increasingly good and supremely affordable.” Have a taste of Procavia for starters. It’s from the highly awarded Daschbosch cellars in Breede River Valley. Sandwiched between the Atlantic and the semi-desert Klein Karoo, the area has excellent soils and climate for producing fine wine. This red, named after a cute indigenous animal known locally as a dassie, is crafted from Bordeaux’s classic Cabernet and Merlot. Handpicked, cold soaked, fermented and aged in barrel for 18 months, it has the rich, ripe fruit of the New World and the Old World’s classic elegance. Mellow enough to enjoy solo or with simple steak.

"South African wine is on a roll – such quality, innovation and reasonable prices. This is a stunner" Kirsten Willis
