Tasting notes

The Diffonty family can trace their wine-growing history back to 1673 but their current success is more recent. They owned just two hectares of vines at the start of the 20th century and steadily built up their holdings. They launched the Cuvée du Vatican label (with the blessing of the Pope) in 1958. Today Jean-Marc Diffonty is at the helm. He has renamed the top estate wines (red and white) Château Sixtine, and the Vatican label now represents his excellent négociant wine range. Critic Jeb Dunnuck of says this is a "soft, supple and textured 2012 that has nice berry fruit, spring flowers and tinges of licorice on the nose". It's perfectly suited to Mediterranean dishes, especially lamb cutlets and aromatic ratatouille.
