Cuvée du Vatican Réserve de l'Abbé Blanc 2018

Côtes du Rhône AOC

Rhône whites are special, especially when they’re crafted by Châteauneuf maestro Jean-Marc Diffonty. There’s a particularly luscious, full bodied quality here thanks to the exotic mix of Rhône grapes, with ripe fruit, mineral grip and oak spice.

The Diffonty family can trace their wine-growing history back to 1673. They owned just two hectares of vines at the start of the 20th century and steadily built up holdings, launching the Cuvée du Vatican label (with the blessing of the Pope) in 1958. Today Jean-Marc Diffonty is at the helm and he has been instrumental in delivering the biggest leap in quality. Most of his wines are red, but he also makes two rich whites: his Grand Vin and his Réserve. His Réserve is a luscious blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier and Clairette – all southern Rhône classics, with one third aged in new French oak. It’s a delicious mouthful of ripe apricot and oaky spice with an underlying grip of citrus. A fine white for creamy sauced dishes.
