In 1988 Michel Rolland visited Argentina and fell in love with its people, the landscape and its culture. He was also seriously impressed by its wine potential. He believed with the right location, it could make wines that would match the best of Bordeaux (and he's made a few of those), even the world. After extensive searching, he discovered land at 1,100 metres in the Uco Valley, in the foothills of the Andes. Its soil of pebbles, clay and sand seemed ideal for premium wine, while the large fluctuation in day and night time temperatures was perfect for quality and finesse. He purchased 850 hectares for vineyards and built a state of the art winery. Made by the same Grand Cru Classé methods as top Bordeaux, this is a serious oaked red.
