Cleanskins are premium Aussie wines sold at knock-down prices under plain labels, but usually only at the cellar door. Happily however, our Buyer Dan Parrott has used his contacts to bring you this exceptionally rich Shiraz bargain. Dense and spicy.
Tasting notes
Bold and rounded with dense fruit and velvet tannins
Aroma
Ripe black fruits, eucalyptus and oak spices
This is the kind of Shiraz that blocks the light. It’s typical of Langhorne Creek, which has provided the secret ingredient in several Jimmy Watson winners – the most coveted wine Trophy of all Down Under – since 1962. Some of Langhorne’s famous wines we’ve sold previously include Metala (made from 19th century vines), Wolf Blass and Ben Rigg’s Zonte’s Footsteps. So you get the picture, this is a landmark Aussie red. The region is south of Adelaide, right by the coast and the freshwater Lake Alexandrina, where cooling breezes help produce “seriously rich Shiraz” (Max Allen, Crush). Smooth with dense, smoky black fruit, liquorice and a kiss of spicy oak, this superb wine goes a treat with char-grilled steaks and spicy beef curries.
