Positioned in the northeastern corner of South Island, Marlborough is one of New Zealand’s most prestigious wine regions – famous for grassy, herbaceous Sauvignon Blancs of arresting quality, and increasingly for a few more varieties besides. Company Bay is from a top cellar there, one of the pioneers of the region. They were delighted to make us this tropical and gooseberry crisp cuvée at a special price, with the proviso that we don’t blow the whistle on them and upset their usual customers. Picking in the cool of the night and fermenting at a low temperature have ensured maximum fruit and freshness are captured in the bottle. A vibrant, crisp, juicy white – a super glass on its own, or enjoy with seafood, spicy Asian cuisine or salads.
