More information
This vibrant Riesling is all about the number 8 – it’s the name of the vineyard, its alcohol level, and the number of times it is lees stirred. The wine is from the Clark family, whose estate lies in Marlborough’s Upper Awatare Valley. Former soldier and nurse Peter and Jane Clark set up the property in 1998. They planted 8 hectares with 22,000 vines and, despite major setbacks, including devastating frost (a hazard this high), they persevered. In 2003 they were joined by son Simon, who has worked vintages at Australia’s renowned Yalumba and for Germany’s great Dr Loosen. Today the family can boast of being established masters of their craft, in 2011 winning Trophy for Best Riesling at NZ’s Royal Easter Show, plus Golds for Sauvignon too.
