The Médoc is home to appellations like Pauillac and Margaux, containing Bordeaux’s priciest wines. But look a little harder and you’ll find small, family-owned estates like this, producing tasty claret at far friendlier prices. A Gold medal red.

Located in the heart of the Médoc, Château Les Trois Manoirs is a Cru Bourgeois estate owned by the acclaimed Cruchon family (who run Château Chantemerle, another Cru Bourgeois). For this sophisticated cuvée, the Cruchons selected premium parcels from their estate vineyards, stocked with vines up to 50 years old. In the cellar, light oak ageing softens the Cabernet dominant blend and adds subtle spice notes and just a hint of vanilla. The quality shows in the glass and in the many awards. Over the years this gem has scooped coveted medals and a slew of other impressive accolades, six in total for the 2012. This vintage is approaching its drinking peak and will be ideal with beef Wellington, mature cheeses, vegetable lasagne or game terrine.

"Best bottle of wine ever. A really traditional French red. So smooth. Will be ordering more" Online Review
