Graves AOC

Robert Parker described 2010 as “unquestionably another great vintage!” in Bordeaux. This is a sumptuous Graves claret from the 200 year old Château de Graves estate. Luscious Merlot smoothness with Cabernet’s firm backbone and ripe cassis.

Seven years on, it’s exciting to secure an allocation of the 5-Star 2010 vintage. Especially from the revered Graves appellation renowned for its ageworthy clarets. Château de Graves is the property of the Butler family. Related to the aristocratic Butlers of Kilkenny Castle, this branch left Ireland for France in the 17th century. In Bordeaux they gained the noble title ‘de Butler’. Arnaud de Butler became proprietor of Château de Graves in 2008, bringing to an end the Lamothe family’s 200 year ownership of the estate. Arnaud timed it well, benefiting from two stellar vintages, 2009 and 2010. The gravelly soil of this estate produces wines of superb elegance and intensity. Stand the bottle up for a few hours and decant if there’s sediment.

"I have a particular affection for the Graves because they are such elegant wines" Steven Spurrier
