Jean-Marc Diffonty’s flagship red is a rich, opulent, no holds barred style of Châteauneuf. The dark fruit intensity and complexity is impressive, with rich, herbal spice to round things off. Top vintage red with Gold and 94 points from WS.

Robert Parker loves this domaine’s “powerful, rich, in your face style of wine”. And that just describes the estate’s standard Châteauneuf. Having said that, this wine is no blockbuster, but has elegance, length and balance. This is fourth generation winemaker Jean-Marc Diffonty’s flagship red. He selects the finest Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah from the oldest (100+ years) vines and then ages the wine for 12 months in oak, 20% of that new, to craft a consistently brilliant red which attracts plaudits and awards every year. The 2015 Rhône vintage is being hailed as the best for 50 years, so expect gorgeous fruit and depth in this lush Sixtine. A red that’s delicious for drinking young, yet will cellar well. Pair with lamb or game dishes.
