Château Saint Jean de Béard 2016

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru AOC

From a family property, now run by the 9th generation, this 2016 offers exceptional value. A great vintage, lovely depth and ripeness to the low-yield fruit, with up to 18 months in barrel, this is a velvety, deep Bordeaux red that's maturing nicely.

Château Saint Jean de Béard is the second label of the renowned estate Béard La Chapelle. It's been in the hands of the Moureau family for nine generations now, with Franck and his sister Laurence today at the helm. This youngest generation are determined to take quality yet higher, working the vineyards with care, upgrading the cellar and experimenting with new methods. Planted on clay and limestone soils in this revered appellation, their vines are pruned back to ensure reduced yields and grapes full of exceptional flavour. Despite being their second label, Château Saint Jean de Béard is still a Grand Cru, taking grapes largely from their younger vines. All crafted with the same immaculate care, this is a great-value claret to snap up.

"Lovely maturity in this second label of Château Béard La Chapelle. Complex, mellow and layered" Jean-Marc Sauboua
