Château Peybourdieu is exactly the type of small, under the radar property we love to champion. It also illustrates Robert Parker’s advice not to “overlook the so-called petits vins of Bordeaux – they frequently compete with wines selling for two or three times the price”. Winemaker Denis Cayé is the third generation of his family at the property since 1956 and his years of experience counted in the small, frost affected 2017 vintage. The result is a thoroughly delicious, satin smooth 60/40 Médoc blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with rich blackcurrant, notes of undergrowth and liquorice and cigar box character. The finish is long with silky yet grippy tannins. Excellent with roast meats or game or a hearty vegetable bake.
