Palmer is a 55 hectare estate who's imposing Chateau, with it's witches-hat turrets and fluttering flags, can be seen for miles around. It is one of ten 3rd growth properties in Margaux, and is the leader of the pack in terms of quality, indeed it has consistently challenged Chateaux Margaux over several decades. They have an unusually high proportion of Merlot for the commune and Petit Verdot is also usually a significant componet. With the lowest yields since 1961 producing only 5,000 cases in 2011, Palmer once again vies with ChâteauMargaux for top honours and is a contender for wine of the vintage. The aroma delivers richly fragrant, spicy fruit. On the palate this has great volume and energy. This is a high tensile, intense and impactful Palmer with seductive mid-palate perfume and sweet, juicy fruit.Matthew Hemming, Fine Wine Manager.
