Charles Back is no stranger to the highest 5-Star rating from top SA critic John Platter. His family have been making award winning wines on this fine Paarl estate since 1937 (though the first wine from the property precedes that by 238 years!). Before that, Charles’ grandfather – a self taught winemaker – had already clocked up a SA Champion wine, in 1926. Since taking over in 1995 Charles has made a terrific name pioneering new wine regions and exotic grapes (as well as producing prize winning cheese from the estate’s goats). He is above all innovative, and he and winemaker Anthony de Jager make a formidable team. Crafted from a unique blend of Tannat, Merlot and Shiraz, this red boasts dense, dark, spicy fruit. Serve with hearty dishes.
