The Cru Bourgeois of the Haut-Médoc are an extremely interesting proposition. Quality wise, they can almost match the Haut-Medoc's Crus Classés. Price wise, however, they do not. Stylish d’Aurilhac is now nicely mature (see below for clarification).

Château d’Aurilhac lies in Saint-Seurin de Cadourne, close to the Médoc/Haut-Médoc, just north of Saint-Estèphe. Its near neighbour is the renowned Château Sociando-Mallet. From d'Aurilhac's vineyards, you look down to the Gironde and this proximity to the estuary helps provide a superb microclimate for its vines. In 1983, its vineyards were replanted with new rootstocks, better suited to the local conditions, and quality improved almost immediately. Aged a year in oak, this 11-year-old shows mature fruit and spice box character. Please note, that château owner Eric Nieuwaal has emphasised that his back label words mean that the wine will improve for 4 to 7 years, not that it must be drunk in that time. We apologise for the confusion.
