For a glass of mature, silky Bordeaux, open a bottle of this fine Cru Bourgeois Médoc. A Gold medal winner too. With a year's ageing in barrel, the rest in bottle, it's developed lots of gentle complexity beautifully integrated with delicate fruit.

In 1995 the Lacombe family bought Château Tour Saint Vincent, in Saint Christoly de Médoc, close to the Gironde estuary. They have worked hard to restore the vineyards and the cellar, and have been rewarded with superior Cru Bourgeois status for their wine, as well as many medals at competition. The estate lies close to both the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic, while the commune of Saint Estèphe is a near neighbour. Made from a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, fermented in tank and aged in barrel, it's a mellow, silky red. 2012 was a gentle vintage and the wine is now tasting at its peak. Stand the bottle upright a few hours to allow any sediment to drop to the bottom, then carefully decant and serve with plain meats.
