The vineyards of Clos Haut-Peyraguey lie at the highest point on the Bomme plateau. This is the very heart of Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé wines and its most famous châteaux. World renowned winemaker Bernard Magrez purchased the estate in 2012 from the Pauly family, owners for the last 100 years. It boasts 12 hectares of vines, all close to the Ciron river, which provides the autumn mists perfect for the development of Botrytis cinerea (the good rot!). As you’d expect, the grapes are harvested by hand, berry by berry, with absolute precision to ensure optimum noble rot. Fermentation and ageing in part new oak barrels add many layers of honeyed complexity and toasty vanilla oak, which can take decades to show off their full glory!
