The Castaño family have been making exciting wines in tiny Yecla for generations. Traditional in many ways, but pioneers of the region too. Their most prized possessions are the ancient Monastrell bush vines that make up 80% of their high altitude vineyards. You'll taste that height in the ravishing freshness of this darkly fruity sweet wine. It's pure Monastrell, with fermentation halted part way through by the addition of grape spirit. The luscious fortified wine is then aged in French and American barrels for six months to add vanilla spice. Chill down and serve as an apéritif, continental style, or with fruitcake, sticky toffee pudding or as a deliciously indulgent glass on its own. A wonderful balance of sweet, savoury and fresh.
