Campanula Chardonnay 2019

Dunántúli

Classic Chardonnays are by no means limited to Burgundy. Good ones are grown the world over, and in Hungary’s ideal climate this grape ripens perfectly while retaining all its fresh, creamy allure. Campanula is crisp and citrusy with peachy fruit.

Lovers of great value Chardonnay should look beyond Australia and France to Hungary and in particular to Campanula. Named after the Campanula flower that grows wild among the vines, this wine represents some of the best value Central Europe has to offer. The grapes are grown close to Lake Balaton in Hungary’s Etyek Buda, a subregion of Dunántúli, which boasts a climate perfect for elegant whites. Indeed, the area used to provide wines for the Russian Imperial court and still shows its regal credentials when it comes to great Chardonnay. This wine bears all the grape’s classic hallmarks of ripe pear and peach aromas together with a minerality that ensures good structure and balance. Enjoy solo or with chicken, salmon or creamy pasta dishes.
