Heard of Cabardès? It's a small region just north of the medieval city of Carcassonne, southern France. It's renowned for its appealing reds that offer you an elegant taste of Bordeaux with the ripe warmth of the Mediterranean. That's because, unusually, it may use Bordeaux's two Cabernets, along with Grenache and Syrah. Château de Pennautier is a beautiful estate, owned by the Lorgeril family, who've been growers there since 1620. Today Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril have six estates in premium sites within the Languedoc Roussillon – in Corbières, St-Chinian, Minervois and Roussillon. This pure Cabernet Franc red will charm you with its pretty fruit and silky elegance. Great with roast chicken, ratatouille and other Mediterranean dishes.
